MORDELABS technical differentiation

Technological evolution led us to develop proprietary tools for the new generation of helium-filled drives, positioning us as an international reference for highly complex cases.

Critical scenarios

When to request immediate technical support

Server or storage unavailable affecting operations.
Suspected ransomware or encrypted file outbreak.
RAID/NAS degradation with risk of additional data loss.
Need to preserve technical evidence for legal/compliance use.

Hard Drive Data Recovery

Technical recovery for logical, firmware, electronic, and mechanical failures

Every case starts with technical diagnosis to identify failure type and define the safest extraction strategy. We work with internal and external drives from Western Digital, Seagate, Toshiba, Hitachi and others.

When is recovery possible?

In most scenarios, yes. Even when the drive:

  • is not detected
  • clicks repeatedly
  • stopped booting
  • suffered physical impact
  • shows read errors
  • asks for formatting
  • appears with incorrect capacity

The most important factor is to stop using the drive after failure. Continued usage can significantly increase internal damage and permanent data loss risk.

How much does HDD data recovery cost?

Cost depends on failure type, not drive capacity.

Logical recovery

Cases such as deleted files, lost partitions, file-system errors, and formatting prompts.

From 75EUR + VAT

Firmware issues

Drives not detected or incorrectly identified by the system.

Under specific assessment

Mechanical failures

Clicking sounds, abnormal noises, damaged heads, or physical impact.

Usually between 300EUR and 1200EUR + VAT

Severe damage

Surface damage, multiple internal failures, or previous recovery attempts.

Require individual technical evaluation

1. Diagnosis

We identify the failure cause and assess data-recovery probability.

2. Quote

You receive a proposal before any advanced intervention.

3. Recovery

We apply procedures suited to the specific failure type.

4. Validation

Recovered data is checked before final delivery.

How long does it take?

Timeline depends on case complexity.

Simple cases

1 to 3 business days.

Intermediate cases

3 to 10 business days.

Complex cases

May require multiple weeks due to firmware reconstruction, donor-part sourcing, or progressive reads of degraded areas.

Data Recovery vs Drive Repair

Most people search for drive repair, but the real objective is usually data recovery. In most cases, the original drive is not reused after recovery.

The lab objective is to stabilize the device just long enough to safely extract data. The final product is not a repaired disk. The final product is your recovered files.

The drive is clicking. What does it mean?

Repeated clicks usually indicate read-head issues or inability to correctly locate data.

  • Power off the drive.
  • Avoid recovery software attempts.
  • Avoid new boot attempts.

Each additional attempt can increase internal damage.

The drive is not detected. Is recovery still possible?

Yes. Many undetected drives still contain all data.

Common causes include:

  • Corrupted firmware
  • Electronic failures
  • Read-head issues
  • Internal degradation

Lack of detection does not necessarily mean data loss.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is diagnosis free?

Initial diagnosis identifies the failure type and evaluates the recovery process.

Can you recover drives that make noise?

Yes, depending on the internal condition of the device.

Can you recover data after a drop?

In many cases, yes. It is important to power off the drive immediately after the incident.

Do you recover external drives?

Yes. We recover USB external drives, internal HDDs, and more complex storage systems.

What if the data is not recoverable?

Each case is individually assessed after diagnosis.
